Fused glass material information
Fused and tempered glass is a specially crafted glass that combines strength, safety, and beauty. At Muundo, we use this technique to create surfaces with a distinctive water ripple effect, reminiscent of the gentle movement of water.
Tempered glass is a type of safety glass that has been heat-treated to be up to four times stronger than standard glass. In the rare event of breakage, it shatters into small, blunt pieces rather than sharp shards, greatly reducing the risk of injury or damage.
Our fused glass is cast and spray-coated by hand, combining durability with a refined, artisanal character. The result is a surface that is highly resistant and practical, while also visually striking.
Edge finishing
The collection’s irregular shapes and organic surfaces make the manual cleaning required after painting particularly challenging. Any paint that enters the glass cavities cannot be removed.
Dots
The small dots can occasionally occur as a natural consequence of the unique technical glass-fusing process. During production, microscopic traces of release material may remain on the surface of the glass.
Although each piece is carefully cleaned and inspected, these traces are completely invisible during both the production and tempering stages. They may only become visible after the final painting process, particularly with darker colours where even the smallest surface variation becomes more noticeable.
Due to the nature of this unique production technique, the occasional presence of such small dots is therefore not considered a production defect, but rather an inherent characteristic of the fusing process.
We nevertheless apply strict quality controls and already reject pieces where these visual imperfections exceed our accepted quality standards. While occurrences are rare, it is technically not possible to completely exclude them without compromising the nature of this production process.
